Here's the place we are staying. It is a cute little cottage a short walk to Rob and Carrie's house and a short walk the other direction to Kailua Beach.
This blog is a diary of our travels and things going on in our lives. Many of the entries are Vic's photography. We thank you for being interested in what's happening with us. Click on the picture to make larger. Also check out: www.vicluikenpics.blogspot.com.

Honest People
We walked downtown Kailua Sunday afternoon to have a coffee at Starbucks. Vic and I got there first and were waiting for the Slangers to come. When they arrived we moved to a different table. We were sitting drinking our coffee and Carrie saw a young couple get up from their table and start toward their car. She said, "Dad, that man's camera has a case strap on his camera just like you do". Vic suddenly realized his camera was gone! We both jumped up and started toward that couple getting into their car. Vic could see his camera inside and tapped on the window. He said, "I believe that is my camera". The couple both said they didn't want to leave it at Starbucks, so wrote a note and hung it by the window so whoever lost the camera could call them. Sure enough-there hung that note. We thanked them over and over and walked away feeling really good that there are some honest people in the world.

FRIDAY
Grandpa would not give up Mack this morning. He was so cuddly and sweet (Mack, not Vic)
After the appointment Rob took us to eat at Sam Snead's at a golf course. It was a very beautiful place. Mack slept through the meal!

Thursday
A malasada (or malassada) is a Portuguese confection. Malasadas are made of egg-sized balls of yeast dough that are deep-fried in oil and coated with granulated suguar. Traditional malasadas contain neither holes nor fillings, but some varieties of malasadas are filled with flavored cream or other fillings.

We drove along the coast toward the North Shore this morning. We stopped at a food vendor to buy a very yummy treat. We took a picture of it because you may have eaten one yourself when you were here. If you haven't take my word for it, they are wonderful!
Mr. Mack had a really good day today. We enjoyed his company a lot but I don't think the feeling was mutual. You can see he appeared to be bored with it all.
It seems to me he is saying "I am sick of that camera in my face all day"

What a Fabulous Day It Was!
We were up early this a.m and decided to head to Kailua Beach to watch the sunrise. It is an awesome sight.

Carrie decided she wanted to take us to the new Whole Foods Store at Kahala Mall. The drive there is so beautiful. We decided we'd better have a bite to eat while we were there. This is the first Whole Foods Store to come to Hawaii. Soon one will be in Kailua, but probably not until after Rob and Carrie have moved away.

Saturday Morning Walk

Mack was having a good cry this morning so I thought it might be time for Grandma to take him for a walk. He hollered until we got down to the street and then decided to settle in for a good nap. We were gone for 1 1/2 hours touring several aisles of stores in downtown Kailua. He's a good shopper. I wanted to break him into the small stuff before we hit the Mall of America. Mack and I were hoping his mom could have taken a little nap, but she said she couldn't sleep very long. We may have to do this again tomorrow. It was great fun.

Grandma's arrived
The flight to Honolulu was right on time. It was overbooked so they were trying to get people to give up their seats - they'd give $300, but you couldn't leave Minneapolis until the 17th....well, you know I wasn't running up to give my name. I was so excited to get my hands on Mack. I could tell he liked me right away. It is going to be so much fun being here. I am already thinking how hard it will be to leave. I will be posting some pictures, but unlike Mack's grandpa the camera wasn't the first thing I unpacked. Maybe tomorrow.

We are so very grateful for the safe arrival of Mack Owen Slanger. He was born at 2:52 p.m (7:52 CDT) Hawaii time. He has light brown hair. He weighed 9#6oz - very close to Carrie's birthweight at 9#7oz. You can be sure there will be pictures as soon as we can get them. It was a long labor but Mom sounded so excited!!

Baby Boy Slanger's Due Date
Today is the date we have been looking forward to. However, no baby yet. It seems that Carrie was right after all when she said he won't be early. There are many hours left in this day and to top it off it is 5 hours earlier in Kailua. So, we will just have to see what this day brings. Stay tuned.................
PS Rob is predicting he'll arrive on Saturday. We'll see how much he knows!
